Frequently asked questions

What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL. Analytics tools such as Google Analytics read them to show which source, channel and campaign sent each visitor.

Which UTM parameters are required?

utm_source is required. We recommend always adding utm_medium and utm_campaign too, so reports group your traffic correctly.

Are UTM values case-sensitive?

Yes. “Instagram” and “instagram” show up as two different sources, which is why this tool lowercases every value.

Why shorten a UTM link?

Tagged URLs are long and look untrustworthy. A short link keeps the tags, looks clean and also counts clicks.
