Short Links

Create short links and control how they behave with custom slugs, scheduling, click limits, app linking and tracking pixels.

Short links turn long URLs into linked.is/your-slug. You manage them under Shortened Links in the dashboard sidebar.

  1. Click Shorten a link on the Dashboard, or open Shortened Links and click Add new.
  2. Enter the Destination URL (it must start with http:// or https://).
  3. Optionally fill in:
    • Custom slug - Leave it empty for an auto-generated 7-character slug.
    • Link title - A display name for the link. If you leave it empty, linked.is tries to read the page title.
    • Show title page - See Title page.
    • Temporary URL and UTM parameters - See below.
  4. Click Create.

The link is created in the workspace that is currently selected.

Slug rules

  • 3 to 50 characters: letters, numbers and hyphens.
  • Slugs are shared with bio profiles, so a slug that is already used by a link or a bio profile can't be taken.
  • Some slugs are reserved because linked.is uses them for its own pages, for example dashboard, tools, docs, blog and explore.

Safety checks

Every destination URL is checked against known malware and phishing lists. A URL that is flagged can't be shortened.

The Shortened Links page lists your links with their name, short URL, destination, clicks and creation date. You can:

  • Filter the list by URL.
  • Use the Actions menu on a row to Edit link, Copy short URL, Copy destination URL, Open in new tab or Delete link.
  • Select several rows and click Delete selected to remove them at once.

Click a link to open its page. It has two tabs: Settings and Stats (see Analytics).

On the Settings tab you can change the Destination URL, Link title, Show title page and URL slug, then click Save changes. Below that are the Temporary URL, App linking, Tracking pixels and UTM parameters sections. Changes in these sections are saved automatically.

The panel next to the settings shows the short URL and its QR code. Click PNG to download the code, or Customize to open it in the QR Code Generator and change colors or add a logo.

Title page

Turn on Show title page to show the link title on a linked.is page before visitors go on. The Continue button unlocks after 5 seconds.

Links to YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify and SoundCloud work in a similar way: they open a linked.is page with the embedded video or player, and a Continue button that leads to the original page.

Temporary URL

Use Temporary URL to limit when or how often a link works:

  • Enable scheduling - Set a Start date and an End date. The link only works between them.
  • Click limit - The link stops working after this many clicks.
  • Expiration URL - Where visitors are sent before the start date, after the end date, or once the click limit is reached. If you leave it empty, the short link no longer opens at those times.

App linking

When the destination belongs to a supported app, the App linking section shows which app was detected. Turn on Auto open app on mobile to open the link in the native app on phones instead of the browser. You can enable it for iOS, Android or both. If the app isn't installed, the visitor is sent to the web page.

Supported apps include TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn, Spotify, Snapchat, Reddit, Twitch, Pinterest, Netflix, Amazon, AliExpress, Apple Music, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Facebook Messenger, Airbnb, Booking.com, TripAdvisor and StockX.

Tracking pixels

Tracking pixels let your ad and analytics platforms record a visit every time someone clicks your short link.

  1. Go to Settings > Pixels and click Create Pixel.
  2. Choose the Type, give it a Name and enter the Pixel ID from that platform. Supported platforms are Facebook, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, X, Snapchat and Quora.
  3. Open a short link, expand Tracking pixels and turn on Enable tracking pixels.
  4. Attach the pixels you want to fire for this link.

When pixels are attached, visitors see a short "Redirecting..." page while the pixels load, then continue to the destination.

UTM parameters

The link form has UTM parameters fields (Source, Medium and Campaign). When someone opens the short link, the filled-in fields are added to the destination as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, so your analytics tool sees where the visit came from. If the destination URL already has one of these parameters, the field's value replaces it. Empty fields are left out.

The preview under the fields shows the query string that will be added. The UTM Link Builder builds a fully tagged URL, including utm_term and utm_content, if you need more parameters.

Custom domains

With a Pro or Team plan you can serve your short links from your own domain, such as go.example.com/slug. See Custom Domains.
